We spent about four to five days building this piece including all the millwork which is manufactured in our shop. The lower mantel stands about six feet high and sits on a 10” hearth bringing it close to 7’off the finished floor.
(Don’t have to worry about seeing the dust on this mantel top!)
This mantel was completely fabricated in our shop and disassembled for delivery and installation. It is built in five sections, and constructed out of poplar wood and ¾” plywood with a walnut faux finish. The lion and center crest carvings are a resin and plaster material, also faux painted to create a gilded look.
This substitution of plaster over wood can be a very inexpensive way to have your cake and eat it too. The price range for this mantel was around $6,000.00 painted and installed, compared to $8,000.00 to $10,000.00 for a solid walnut mantel.

How long did it take to prep the area and finish this installation?

Not long! We have a pretty good system for building and installing these bad boys. We’re going to cover some of these install tricks a little later.
