The first thing that you want to think about when laying out any project is avoiding mistakes. Building bars, mantels, libraries and anything else with multiple layers of build up can be very confusing. (even for us!) This is why step one in anything you build should be to make a story pole.
A story pole is basically any sort of stick or board used for keeping track of all your horizontal & vertical measurement’s during layout and construction. A clean, strait stick is recommended because this is a very important tool in avoiding mistakes. As Pop would say, it tells a story and it better be the right one!
